Cal Ripken Statue Now Welcomes Visitors at Youth Complex

I'm often asked about the whereabouts of the statue that once stood watch over the intersection at West Bel Air Avenue and U.S. Route 40 in .

The iconic image of Cal Ripken waving to his family amid his record-breaking 2,131st consecutive game once stood as a welcome sign to the city.

Now it welcomes visitors from around the world when they come to the Ripken Baseball youth complex near .

The statue is a towering flyball from , where for a second straight Cal Ripken World Series title.

Following the opening ceremonies a week earlier, I wandered around the complex, which I hadn't visited in maybe two or three years. , I stumbled across the statue in a pocket park of sorts at one of the higher elevations in the complex.
