Man Uses Gun to Rob Rite Aid of Oxycontin

The suspect took the powerful prescription narcotic and left through the rear of the store.

Aberdeen police are searching for a man who used a gun to rob a Rite Aid pharmacy of the prescription narcotic Oxycontin on Tuesday night.

Police described man as black with a gray beard, between 40 and 50 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing a blue button down shirt with paint on it.

The man entered the Rite Aid at 15 W. Bel Air Ave. at 8:38 p.m., according to a news release from the Aberdeen Police Department. Once all the customers had left the store, the man pulled out a "black handgun and demanded Oxycontin from the pharmacist," according to the news release.

Once he had the pills, the man "fled out the back door" toward Howard Street, according to police. Oxycontin is a powerful prescription narcotic with a thriving street market and is widely abused for its potent opiate high, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
