PHOTOS: New Ride For Aberdeen Police

After all, how many police departments can roll on 22-inch rims?

Canby Motors recently took an aging cruiser and overhauled it into an eye-catching marketing tool for the Aberdeen Police Department.

"This car was going to auction," said. "It's a 12-year-old car, 117,000 miles. We were going to get rid of it. It was not in good shape. Canby offered to take this and they donated everything and did all the work. None of this came out of City funds. Canby did the paint, labor, parts. What you see is what they gave us."

The car will be used to promote safe driving—particularly at events to fight drinking and driving, and texting and driving.

"They already did a nice job promoting teen driving safety. We thought, wouldn't it be nice to give them a cruiser that catches your eye," Canby marketing director Joe Vassallo said. "If it pulls onto a campus or any venue, it will turn heads. Anywhere you see this cruiser, it'll be about a positive message that the police department is promoting."

A portion of proceeds from every vehicle repaired at Canby's Aberdeen facility will go toward a fund designed to raise awareness of teen driving safety, according to a release. Aberdeen police will benefit from some of those funds.

In a statement, Mark Canby, president and owner of Canby Motors said: "Teen driving safety is something that is very important to both the Aberdeen PD and Canby Motors Collision Repair, and with the school year about to start, it's a perfect time to announce our partnership with the Aberdeen PD and our commitment to raising awareness of teen driving safety."
