Three separate players scored $5 million, the state's largest prize of the year. Nineteen players had won $1 million as of Dec. 9.
Winners have plans to buy houses and vehicles, retire early and help their families. Here's a look back at the state's 10 biggest wins of the year.

1. $5 million on $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off sold at Back River Exxon, 100 Back River Road, Essex
She thought she won $50,000, but she was missing a few zeroes. Upon learning of her winnings, she was short of breath and had to have her brother calm her down. She plans to retire early, buy a house, gift some money to family and donate to her faith community. She also plans to buy vehicles for her daughter and herself.
“She gets her Jeep. I get my Jeep,” the Essex woman said on June 24 while claiming her winnings.

2. $5 million on $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off sold at Town Center Sunoco, 19738 Germantown Road, Germantown
He didn't believe his win was real, so he sent a photo of the ticket to his family to confirm. He plans to put the money toward his children's education.
“My heart started beating so fast,” the Germantown man said when he claimed his prize on Nov. 3. “I had never felt like that before. It really felt like it was about to burst out of my chest.”
3. $5 million on $5,000,000 Cash scratch-off sold at Safeway, 4401 Harford Road, Baltimore
A federal employee stayed home sick on April 10 when she decided a smoothie would help. She went to the grocery store to buy the ingredients. While there, she cashed a $120-winning Keno ticket and bought some more tickets, including the $5 million winner.
“I saw the message and the confetti pop up, but I couldn’t tell if it was $5,000 or $5 million,” the Baltimore woman said. “I kept scanning it over and over, but I still couldn’t believe it.”
4. $3.3 million Multi-Match jackpot-winning ticket sold at J. Convenience, 8765 Satyr Hill Road, Parkville
A husband and wife learned that a jackpot-winning ticket was sold at the store where they purchased their ticket. Despite knowing this, the Baltimore couple avoided checking their ticket for three days.
“As crazy as it sounds, I didn’t want to jinx it. I just wanted to hold on to that feeling that I’d won as long as possible,” the husband said in a March 6 press release.
It was only when they visited Maryland Lottery headquarters that they learned they had won $3.3 million. They plan to pay off family debt and donate to their favorite charities and their church.
5. $2,041,396 on Gold Rush Progressive FAST PLAY progressive jackpot-winning ticket sold at Mutt’s Liquors, 4541 Indian Head Highway, Indian Head
A Charles County man saw the always-popular “Go to lottery” message after scanning his ticket, but he couldn't read some of the numbers on the ticket. He and his wife later learned that a jackpot-winner was sold at the store where they had bought their ticket.
“That was the liquor store where I bought the ticket. I knew it had to be it,” the Southern Maryland resident said when claiming his winnings on July 1.
6. $2 million on Fire scratch-off sold at 7-Eleven, 1001 Aviation Boulevard, Baltimore
An aviation worker scored $2 million prize on a new scratchoff. He planned to speak with a financial advisor to discuss how to maximize the benefit for his relatives.
“I’ve got some family to help out,” he said May 7 after claiming the first top prize on the $30 game. “The most important thing is family.”
7. $2 million on Monopoly X200 scratch-off sold at Royal Farms, 9740 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills
She has won prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000, but she had never landed anything as big as this $2 million jackpot. The Owings Mills woman and her husband were considering buying a new house with their winnings, a Jan. 17 press release said.
8. $2 million on Monopoly X200 scratch-off sold at Giant Food, 10210 Mill Run Circle, Owings Mills
A Randallstown woman nearly threw out her ticket after being confused by the “Take to lottery” message. She checked the ticket again and was pleasantly surprised to learn of her prize. She plans to save the money, and she may consider retiring soon from her job as a secretary, an Oct. 17 press release said.
9. $1.9 million on Multi-Match jackpot-winning ticket sold at Forbes BP, 9701 Annapolis Road, Lanham
A Bowie man netted a $1.9 million jackpot in the Sept. 18 Multi Match drawing, but he waited over a month to claim his winnings on Oct. 28.
He prefers the odds of winning the Multi Match, a lottery game sold only in Maryland, over national draw games. The odds of a jackpot win on Multi-Match are 1 in 2,032,151.5 on a $2 ticket, which are more than 140 times better than the odds of a jackpot win on Mega Millions or Powerball tickets.
The man and his wife are planning to save their winnings.
10. $1.8 million Multi-Match jackpot that was split evenly between two winning tickets, one sold at Food Lion, 9936 Stephen Decatur Highway, Ocean City, the other at Giant Food, 13781 Connecticut Avenue, Silver Spring.
Two tickets hit this June 30 jackpot, so the prize was split in half and shared. One ticket was purchased in Ocean City and shared by four siblings.
The other was sold to a Montgomery County woman in Silver Spring. She normally picks her own numbers to play, but this time, she let the computer pick her numbers.
“My heart was racing as I looked at my ticket and back at the screen to see my numbers matching,” she said when she claimed. “I was going through the motions, laughing and crying.”
