Arbutus Gearing Up for Arts Festival

The 39th annual event, highlighting handmade arts and crafts, takes over Arbutus on May 20.

The spray-painted marks on the pavement of East Drive can mean only one thing--the community is preparing for the 39th annual Arbutus Arts Festival.

Slated for Sunday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival is expected to bring up to 60,000 people to Arbutus for handmade arts and crafts, making it one of the largest one-day festivals in the state, according to organizing committee chairperson Sue Miller.

Sponsored by , the festival will feature a beer garden and music provided by Halethorpe-based concert act Major Company.

The Children's Corner at the end of East Drive includes a pony ride from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; face painting; a moon bounce, slide and obstacle course, arts and crafts tables, and a child ID program sponsored by the Masons.

Organizers ask that pets be not brought to the festival.
