Here's a sample of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department's recent activity.

During the period Apr.14-21, AVFD received 83 calls for medical and fire-rescue service, including the following:

Apr. 15: At around 9:53 p.m., a brush fire was reported on the 4400 block of Spring Avenue in Halethorpe. Crews from the Arbutus and English Consul volunteer stations and Catonsville and Halethorpe career stations responded and extinguished a woods fire.

Apr. 16: At 2:11 p.m., an assault with injury was reported on the unit block of Harmony Hill Court in Catonsville. Crews from the AVFD responded and transported one seriously injured person to a local hospital.

Apr. 17: At 5:35 p.m., a motor vehicle accident with rescue was reported on I-695 between exits 17-18 in Woodlawn. Crews from AVFD and Catonsville, Garrison, Pikesville, Randallstown, Westview and Woodlawn career stations responded. One seriously injured person was rescued from the vehicle. Three seriously injured people were taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Apr. 18: At 8:38 p.m., a hazardous materials spill was reported on the 100 block of Forest Avenue in Catonsville. Crews from the Arbutus and English Consul volunteer stations and Brooklandville, Catonsville and Westview career stations responded to find a chlorine leak. The spill was contained and hazards removed.

Apr. 19: At around 3:07 p.m., a carbon monoxide detector alarm was reported on the 4600 block of Wilkens Avenue in Arbutus. Crews from AVFD responded to find a malfunctioning detector, and no carbon monoxide.
