Sunday Car Show Fundraiser Supports Autism Fight

One Arbutus family is so committed to fighting autism that it is holding a fundraiser for a fundraiser.

On Sunday, July 15, Jennifer Shifflett and her husband, Jason, are hosting a car show in partnership with Pep Boys, at 7311 Ritchie Hwy, in Glen Burnie.

The car show, held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is to raise funds for Team Toren Rocks--the Shifflett team that will be participating in the Autism Speaks walkathon scheduled for October at M&T Stadium.

"This is the first year we've had a major event," said Jennifer Shifflett, whose 20-year-old autistic son, Toren, attends Maiden Choice School. "Hopefully this will be a place where people with an autistic member of the family will feel comfortable attending."

On display will be show cars, trucks and motorcycles of a variety of makes. Vehicle owners who wish to be eligible for an award must pay a $20 entrance fee, but attendance to the show itself is free to spectators, Shifflett said.

Other events include specialty vendors, 50/50 raffle, door prizes and silent auction, she said.

The main event is precision stunt driver Andy Gardner of Waldorf, MD, who will take spectators for rides in his Stunt Stang for the ultimate Hollywood-style ride of a lifetime--riding on 2 wheels, precision drifting around obstacles, sliding into parallel parking spots and more.
