2 Injured In Train Collision, Derailment In Curtis Bay

BALTIMORE, MD — Two workers were injured Friday morning when a train derailed following a collision in South Baltimore.

The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. when two CSX trains collided at Curtis Bay Yard in Baltimore, according to a company spokesperson. The collision caused four railcars and a locomotive to derail.

Two crew members were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

“Our primary focus right now is the health and safety of onsite staff and personnel and the surrounding community as we begin recovery efforts and work to completely restore the area,” a CSX spokesman said in a statement sent to Patch.

CSX said there is no ongoing risk to the public. No waterways were affected.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
