MD Residents Shared Their Halloween Haunted Yards; Here Are Some To Check Out

Want to take a drive to the spookiest houses decorated for Halloween? We have a few suggestions across Maryland.

MARYLAND — If you're looking for new zombie graveyards, floating ghosts, pirate skeletons and devil's playgrounds to explore for Halloween, you've come to the right place.

Patch has assembled its annual Halloween haunt guide for 2021 created by some of Maryland's most imaginative and demented exterior decorators.

In early October, we asked readers to submit photos of the best decorated Halloween homes in their neighborhoods, and below are the submissions. We will update the list and add to it through Halloween, which this year falls on Sunday, Oct. 31.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

1115 Red Harvest Rd, Gambrills, MD 21054. This Halloween house offers an array of inflatables. "My husband loves to do this to see the kids' smiling faces," Shannon Grimard said.

725 MD-3, Gambrills, MD 21054. Decorations are up seven days a week at this house, which is visible while driving by from Route 3. Hours are 4–11 p.m.

406 Woodland Estates Way, Millersville, MD 21108. This haunted estate features a graveyard, skeletons, spiders and scarecrow, all lit up at night. "Drive by and see the horrors!" homeowner Katherine Boeskin said. Hours are 6:30-10 p.m.

BALTIMORE COUNTY

1219 Berk Ave., Rosedale, MD 21237. Characters including a zombie child and cloaked horseman talk as people pass by this haunted house, which features a graveyard along the side. A spiderweb covers the front of the home. A pumpkin-guarded archway leads to the yard. Next door is also decorated with spooky characters and sound effects.


HARFORD COUNTY

121 Taunton Ct, Abingdon, MD 21009. The Holiday House on Taunton Ct. features characters from horror movies. It is hosting a craft event Saturday, Oct. 23, as well as a "Stuff a Coffin" donation drive, accepting pet supplies for Pitties and Purrs rescue. For Halloween weekend, donations will benefit Susan G. Komen breast cancer research. The display will be lit up from 6 to 10 p.m., with live actors on Saturday nights.

1503 Laurie Drive, Bel Air, MD 21014. A cannon fires as people walk by at "Pirates Of 1503." There is also a pirate ship and drinking pirate. Full effects and sound will be on Saturday, Oct. 23, and from Friday, Oct. 29, to Sunday, Oct. 31.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY

5300 Pooks Hill Rd, Bethesda, MD 20814. The Bethesda Overlook condominium community includes some inflatables and light shows. The main attraction is called "Witches' Lair," featuring a slimer, dancing witch and high-flying screaming banshee in a misty yard where Hagatha is conjuring a spell. Michael Myers and talking pictures are part of the show. Parking is on the street, so people can explore the themed display. They can also drive by. Lights only will be on from 7–11 p.m. this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lights and sounds will be turned on from 7–10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29; Saturday, Oct. 30; and Sunday, Oct. 31.

18120 Northern Dancer Lane, Boyds MD 20841. The "Wacky Halloween Walk-Thru" near Germantown may not be super-big, but it is good for photo ops, according to homeowner Joanne Wachholder. After entering through an archway, visitors can walk through a display with 10 inflatables and exit the opposite side gate before circling back down the driveway. Social distancing is required and people are advised to wear masks if others are nearby. Any donations will be given to Germantown Help. The display is open from 6:30–9 p.m. weather permitting on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in October (22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31). It will open at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, due to a conflict. Guests are asked to leave their pets at home as the owners have a new dog.

11423 Catalina Terrace, Silver Spring, MD 20902. For about four weeks, this homeowner prepares her yard display, called "The Catalina Haunt." Hundreds of children come to visit throughout the month. "Last year we had around 500 hundred trick or treaters and their families Halloween night," Holly Agouridis told Patch. The display is on from 7–8 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 7–8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Catalina Haunt is on Facebook, TikTok and YouTube.
