MD Airport Ranks Among Best In Nation: See Where Your Local Airport Lands

J.D. Power's 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study draws on feedback from more than 30,000 U.S. or Canadian travelers.

BALTIMORE, MD — As Marylanders take to the skies this Thanksgiving weekend, a recent survey from consumer data firm J.D. Power ranked passenger satisfaction at mega, large, and medium North American airports, including one in the state and two in neighboring Northern Virginia.

Baltimore-Washington International Airport ranked 12th in overall passenger satisfaction among large airports in North America, J.D. Power found. The airport received an overall score of 650 out of a possible 1,000 points.

The "large airport" category includes airports that see between 10 and 32.9 million passengers per year.

BWI regularly gets top marks for its easy access, a variety of dining and shopping choices, and recreational opportunities, according to Visit Baltimore. The airport offers travelers more than 500 flights daily on 36 airlines to and from cities across the United States, as well as Toronto, Reykjavik and Punta Cana, among its 13 international destinations.

Just across the Potomac River, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia, scored below the national average, coming in at No. 20 out of the 27 large airports that were evaluated.

Washington Dulles International Airport, which also fell into the "large airport" category, ranked 23rd in overall passenger satisfaction.

The firm's 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study draws on feedback from more than 30,000 U.S. or Canadian travelers between July 2024 and July 2025.

The rankings are based on flyer satisfaction scores across seven broad categories, including ease of travel through the airport, level of trust, terminal facilities, airport staff, food and retail, and departure and arrival experience.

According to J.D. Power, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, is the best large airport in North America, followed by Tampa International Airport in Florida and Dallas Love Field in Texas.

The following are the top three airports in the remaining categories:

Mega

  1. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Minnesota
  2. Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Michigan
  3. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Arizona

Medium

  1. Indianapolis International Airport, Indiana
  2. Ontario International Airport, Canada
  3. Buffalo Niagara International Airport, New York

Airports ranked as the worst, according to overall customer satisfaction, were Newark Liberty International Airport (mega), Philadelphia International Airport (large) and Edmonton International Airport in Canada (medium.)
