BALTIMORE, MD — A person was in critical condition after being rescued Tuesday evening from a vehicle submerged in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, according to authorities.

The Baltimore City Fire Department responded to the 700 block of Eastern Avenue for a report of a vehicle in the harbor, which was fully submerged between Piers 4 and 5, the agency said in a Facebook post around 8 p.m.

Rescue boats and dive teams worked to recover the victim, who was taken to a local hospital, according to the department.

Tourist Kalsang Dolker told The Baltimore Banner she saw the vehicle sinking after arriving in the area around 6 p.m., adding a bystander told her a red Chevy sedan was speeding and “flew off the pier,” plunging into the water.
