So far, states have largely managed their own vaccination coordination efforts — and some have proven more efficient at it than others. In Maryland, 57.9% of the population are fully vaccinated, higher than the U.S. average.

Though Maryland is doing a better job vaccinating its population than other states, there still appears to be some room for improvement. As of July 20, Maryland has received about 8,646,100 vaccinations and administered about 81.9% of those doses.

As the virus mutates and new variants spread, vaccinating the population as rapidly as possible is critical. In total, there have been 464,197 confirmed cases of the virus in Maryland as of July 20 — or 7,682 for every 100,000 people. For context, there have been 10,313 known infections for every 100,000 people nationwide.
