Fatal Shooting In Edgewood: One Charged, Sheriff Says

A Harford County man has been charged with murder and other crimes as a result of a shooting Tuesday, officials say.

Obrien Butler, 36, of Edgewood, was shot in the upper body Tuesday, Oct. 19, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office, which reported he was pronounced deceased at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Investigators are asking for tips and video.

EDGEWOOD, MD — Minutes after an altercation in Edgewood, officials said one man shot and killed the other Tuesday morning.

Carl Alexander, 32, of Edgewood, is accused in the deadly shooting.

Alexander was charged with first- and second-degree murder, manslaughter, first- and second-degree assault, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, using a firearm in a felony crime and illegal possession of ammunition, court records show.

He was still at the scene when deputies were called to the 1700 block of Dearwood Court for a reported shooting around 2 a.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Deputies were directed to a home in the block where they found Obrien Butler, 36, of Edgewood, lying in the residence; he had been shot in the upper body, the sheriff's office reported.

A deputy performed CPR and medics continued efforts to safe the man's life as he was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, where he was pronounced deceased, officials said.

Alexander is being held at the Harford County Detention Center, according to authorities.
