Fire Ignites In Wooded Area Of Harford County During NWS Rapid Fire Spread Warning

A fire broke out late Saturday morning in a wooded area near Street. The NWS had issued a rapid fire spread warning for that day.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, volunteer firefighters from the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire companies were called to the woods to battle the quickly spreading fire. Darlington firefighters were joined by surrounding fire departments.

STREET, MD — Despite a forecast for an increased risk of rapid fire spread Saturday from the U.S. National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, a fire broke out in the woods located in the 1500 block of Robinson Mill Road.

"The combination of recent dry weather, relative humidity falling to 25 to 30 percent, and sustained west to northwesterly winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 25 mph will likely result in an elevated threat for the rapid spread of fires, particularly from late morning through late afternoon (Saturday)," the NWS stated.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, volunteer firefighters from the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire companies were called to the woods to battle the quickly spreading fire. Darlington firefighters were joined by volunteers from Whiteford, Bel Air and Citizens volunteer fire companies, officials noted. A cause of the fire wasn't posted by the fire department as of Sunday.
