Harford Man Who Fatally Stabbed Ex's Grandma Sentenced To Prison

Prosecutors said the man picked up his girlfriend and went to get his taxes done immediately after the murder.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A Harford County man was sentenced to prison this week for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend's grandmother in her Bel Air home.

Angelo Terrell Spencer, 25, of Abingdon, pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree murder and was immediately sentenced to life in prison with all but 75 years suspended, the Harford County Office of the State's Attorney announced.

According to prosecutors, police were called to a Bel Air residence on Feb. 22, 2024, where they found the 73-year-old female victim in the foyer, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts to save her, the woman died en route to the hospital.

The victim's granddaughter later told police her ex-boyfriend had entered their home and stabbed her grandmother. Authorities with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate Spencer at his home, where they took him into custody.

While speaking with detectives, Spencer told them he had been texting the victim's granddaughter the night before because he wanted to see her. He then went to the home and attempted to get her attention by “crunching branches” near the rear basement door of the residence.

When that was unsuccessful, Spencer left and purchased a glass cutter, pocketknife and a pair of gloves before returning to the residence and attempting to break in.

When he failed to gain access to the residence, he went around to the front of the home and knocked on the front door. The victim answered the door and Spencer told her that he was “looking for John.” When the victim told him she did not know anyone by that name, Spencer forced his way into the home.

At that time, prosecutors said Spencer stabbed the victim in the shoulder, panicked and continued to stab her multiple times. The autopsy of the victim revealed she suffered 25 stab wounds to her neck and upper back area.

Following the incident, Spencer told detectives that he fled the scene and traveled to Bel Air
Middle School to pick up his current girlfriend from work. He then went to H&R Block to get his
taxes, stopped at the Bel Air Safeway to wash his hands, picked up his daughter from daycare and returned home.

“Angelo Spencer deserves every day of this sentence for the violent, unjustified, and brutal murder of this seventy-three-year-old grandmother," State’s Attorney Alison M. Healey said in a statement. "The premeditated steps he took to take her life are incomprehensible. I hope that her family can now have some peace knowing her killer has been held accountable.”
