JOPPA, MD — A Joppa man wanted for assault in Harford County faces new charges after he was arrested in Arkansas following a high-speed chase involving the Arkansas State Police that reached speeds exceeding 130 mph.
On Feb. 22 around 5:15 p.m., Arkansas troopers attempted to stop a 2017 Mercedes Benz for a traffic violation along Interstate 40 westbound in Lonoke County. The driver, Dominick Copenhaver, 35, refused to stop and hit speeds of 130 mph and greater, which the ASP described as a "blatant disregard for human life and property."
Copenhaver drove into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed, so troopers used a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver to stop him, the ASP reported. He was taken into custody and faces new charges including fleeing, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, criminal mischief and other traffic violation. The ASP stated that Copenhaver is considered to have "violent tendencies" and is considered armed and dangerous by law enforcement.
