Longtime Fallston Restaurant Damaged By Kitchen Fire

A staple in Harford County for more than 40 years was damaged Saturday by a fire officials have blamed on a kitchen hood system.

According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, the restaurant sustained an estimated $150,000 in damage and loss. The fire was discovered by a passerby and battled by 30 firefighters with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

FOREST HILL, MD — Wargo's Restaurant, a fixture in Forest Hill for more than 40 years, sustained damage after a fire broke out Saturday around 8:12 a.m.

According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, damage to the restaurant was estimated at $150,000 in damage and loss.

The fire was discovered by a passerby and battled by 30 firefighters with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company. It took 10 minutes to extinguish the fire, which has been attributed to a kitchen hood system.

No injuries were reported.

Wargo’s Restaurant & Tavern opened Sept. 29, 1980, and offers traditional Maryland menu items like pit beef, homemade rolls and Maryland crab soup. Owned and operated for more than 40 years by husband and wife, Andy and Brenda Wargo, Wargo’s also features soups made from scratch by the Wargos' son-in-law Marco and a longtime cook.

The restaurant is located at 308 E. Jarrettsville Road in Forest Hill.
