BEL AIR, MD — A group of pirates has overtaken a yard in Bel Air before Halloween.

Jessica and Joe Luciana decorated their yard in Vineyard Oak for the occasion and began installing the pieces Oct. 1.

"We absolutely love Halloween," the Lucianas told Patch. "We have a cannon that ‘fires’ as you walk by, a drinking pirate, and of course a ship with plenty of scurvy pirates."

Called "Pirates of 1503," the display is at 1503 Laurie Drive in Bel Air. The couple first put out the pirates last year.

"We loved seeing the reactions of kids walking by," Jessica Luciana said. "So we decided to continue with pirates but go bigger this year. The cannon was one of our new effects."

They started preparing props and pieces for the display in July.

Until Halloween, the Lucianas say they will be tweaking their display in hopes of adding to the excitement of the holiday.

"I fell in love with Halloween as a kid," Jessica Luciana said. "There was a house growing up that would go all out decorating. The owner would dress as a witch and stand still until you would get to the door, and then come alive as you approached."

She continued: "The excitement of dressing up and decorating has always stayed with me, and I love to be able to provide the same feeling to kids (and adults) who see our display!"

Pirates of 1503 is at 1503 Laurie Drive, Bel Air, MD 21014. The display and lights are on nightly.

Full effects and sound will be on Saturday, Oct. 23, and from Friday, Oct. 29, to Sunday, Oct. 31. The display has its own Instagram and Facebook pages.
