Protest Against Bel Air Walmart Planned Tuesday

The proposed move of the Abingdon Walmart to Bel Air has been met with strong community opposition, and tonight members of the community plan to take a visible stand.

A rally in protest of the proposed Bel Air Walmart is planned to take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (today) in the Abingdon Walmart parking lot, according to a story on ExploreHarford.com.

From there, protesters are expected to attend the Harford County Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, located at 212 South Bond Street in Bel Air, the story states.

At least 800 people attended a July public input meeting on the proposed move, many of those people carrying signs that read "No 924 Walmart".

At that meeting, Steve Tobia of Overview Manor said he questioned his neighbors and, “85 percent of those people said not only no, but hell no,” to a Walmart at the intersection of Plumtree and Route 924.

His sentiments have been echoed by Patch bloggers, commenters and at least one online petition with 400 signatures.
