The new coronavirus has changed life for all of us. Local businesses have taken a huge economic hit, but communities are finding creative ways to support the establishments they know and love.

In an effort to help local businesses in our communities stay connected and succeed, Patch will be shining a light on some of them through a series of Q&A articles during this time.

Paramedical Personnel of Maryland is one of the businesses in town facing struggles during the coronavirus. You can lend your support by reading more about the company, below, and by contacting them here.

Tell us about your business and its history in your town.

PPM began 30 years ago with a mission to save lives by training as many people as possible in CPR and First Aid. We have over 500 instructors out in the field, as well as on-site classes at our training facility.

We have grown the business to meet the needs of our customers to include EMS uniforms, Hi Viz jackets, belts, boots, Leatherman outerwear, Game Sportswear, Carhartt and a personalization service by our embellishment department. We also offer guard uniforms and school uniforms (including St. Paul's and Aberdeen Science and Math Academy) as well as a small supply of safety equipment.

How has the new coronavirus impacted your business and its employees?

Most of our employees are currently laid off, with one in the office to take calls and one working remotely to take care of electronic communications and orders. One instructor is on call to take care of Basic Life Support renewals for medical employees who are required to maintain their certification. All safety precautions as directed by the American Heart Association are being observed.

How can local customers support you now and in the future?

Go to PPMCompanystore.com — this would be a great time to get that birthday present, early Christmas present, or even a thank you present to the EMT or firefighter in your life. We all know that first responders tend to take care of their families first, and will wear a uniform shirt long past its "looking good" date! We have dress uniform shirts in blue and white. July parades will be here before you know it. All members could use an extra uniform just to cut down on laundry. Now would be a great time to buy!

In the future, look to PPM for your CPR and First Aid classes. We offer Family and Friends CPR for everyone, and Wilderness First Aid certification required for Scouts going on High Adventure.

Have a business? We will come to your place of business and teach CPR and First Aid to your staff. We include NARCAN training with our First Aid class, and we also offer Advanced Bleeding Control.

Do you have any words of encouragement for your community?

Let's all continue to work together and keep our community well and strong. Please remember to check on neighbors who might not be able to get by without help.

Are you offering any special services, promotions or hours during this time?

Free shipping on in-stock apparel, footwear and gear.

Are there any other outstanding businesses in town you think deserve some community support?

Remember to thank the EMTs, fire fighters, hospital workers and their families!
