Suspected Arson on Amtrak Bridge Over Gunpowder River

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.

A fire on the Amtrak bridge over the Gunpowder River in Harford County caused thousands in damage, and investigators believe the fire was set intentionally.

Around 7:57 a.m. Sunday, four Joppa firefighters responded to to the Amtrak Bridge over the Gunpowder River in Joppatowne, according to a release from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Firefighters controlled the fire to the wooden scaffolding on the under side of the bridge within five minutes, according to the release.

The fire started at the base of the scaffolding, and investigators believe it was set intentionally.

The fire caused about $5,000 in damage to the bridge.
