MARYLAND — Billionaire Annette Lerner is the wealthiest person in Maryland for the second year, according to The Forbes 400, an annual ranking of America’s super rich.

Lerner, 94, is worth an estimated $6.4 billion, down from $6.5 billion last year. Lerner, who ranks as the 432nd richest person in the nation, lent $250 to her late husband, Ted Lerner, in 1952 to start a real estate company, selling homes for developers.

Today, Lerner Enterprises is among the largest owners of real estate in the Washington, D.C. area. Ted Lerner died in February 2023, leaving Annette and their children as the heirs to the estate. Since 2006, the Lerners have owned the Washington Nationals baseball team. Ted passed control of the team to son Mark in 2018.
