4 Montgomery Co. Students Win Congressional Award Gold Medals
The Congressional Award, the highest honor given to young Americans, was awarded to 478 students, including four from Montgomery County.
BETHESDA, MD — Four Montgomery County students on Saturday received Congressional Award Gold Medals for committing to years of goal-setting and community engagement.
The Congressional Award, the highest Congressional honor given to young Americans, was awarded to 478 students. They had to set and meet goals in four program areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.
The non-competitive, non-partisan program is open to all youth regardless of ability, circumstance, or socioeconomic status. Participants can register at 13-and-a-half years old and earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold certificates and medals.

This year's Congressional Award winners from Montgomery County are:
- Amber Briscoe of Boyds — Northwest High School
- Joshua Kade Friedlander of Bethesda — Bullis School
- Dilan Gangopadhyay of Bethesda — Walt Whitman High School
- Emma Scielzo of Chevy Chase — Holton-Arms School
All 2020 Gold Medalists were honored in a virtual ceremony.
