County's Positivity Rate Drops To 2.88%, COVID Cases Rise By 92

BETHESDA, MD — The number of new coronavirus cases in Montgomery County rose by 92 to 21,467, according to data released Wednesday by the Maryland Department of Health.

No new deaths linked to COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, were reported in the last 24 hours. The countywide death toll remains at 795.

Another 40 people, according to health officials, may have died from COVID-19, but a laboratory test is still needed to confirm the cause of death. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

The county, which is home to roughly 1.1 million people, continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 28,034, according to the latest figures.

Statewide, there have been 117,888 confirmed cases, 3,712 deaths, and 143 "probable deaths." Of the 347 people currently hospitalized, 86 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The state has conducted more than 2,272,000 coronavirus tests to date. The positivity rate now stands at 3.44 percent. In comparison, Montgomery County's test positivity rate is 2.88 percent.
