Labor Day Weekend is approaching fast. Check out this list of family-friendly destinations to ensure an amazing weekend.

MARYLAND — Labor Day Weekend is approaching fast and Marylanders will hit the road to flock to the Eastern Shore. Ocean City is a summer classic, but there are a ton of other Maryland gems — from historic towns to winding trails — to check out before Labor Day passes by and we start thinking about fall fun.

We've compiled a list of our top getaway picks to check out over this three-day weekend:

Assateague Island National Seashore: Assateague Island is a Maryland must. Enjoy a scenic, white sand beach just 20 minutes from Ocean City with fewer crowds and appearances from wild horses. Check out nearby Berlin, which was named "America's Coolest Small Town" in 2014.

National Harbor

Kids will love the 180-foot-tall ferris wheel overlooking the Potomac River and the monuments in DC. Jump on a pedal boat, check out the Urban Pirates pirate ship or take a spin on the carousel. On Saturday, families can attend the Salute the Sunset Concert Series featuring Navy Cruisers at the National Harbor Plaza for amazing performances by bands from the Armed Forces.

Adventure Sports Center International: If you're feeling adventurous, head up to the top of Wisp Mountain in McHenry, located in Garrett County, for whitewater rafting, rock climbing, rappelling, hiking and more. The whitewater course is made of natural concrete and drops 24 feet from top to bottom. Thrill-seekers should prepare to get wet.
