BETHESDA, MD — Starting this month, AMP by Strathmore will be launching artist residencies to support the creation of new works and offer more opportunities to musical artists.

The first “AMPlify” artist in-residence will be Grammy-nominated composer Miho Hazama, who will use the time to prepare for her upcoming recording project. The residency will include three days of rehearsal at AMP by Strathmore and access to other Strathmore resources.

The AMPlify program gives artists the opportunity to use Strathmore’s resources and connections. The residency offers open rehearsals and conversations for the local artist community, including Strathmore’s Artists in Residence (AIR).

“Artists need time to find their voice and create, without the expectation that there is a certain outcome,” said Joi Brown, artistic director and vice president of programming at Strathmore. “Through AMPlify we are doubling down on our mission of nourishing artists’ potential and supporting their creative processes.”

Since 2005, Strathmore has mentored more than 100 musicians through its AIR Program. Strathmore said AMPlify will expand its support of the artistic community.
