Montgomery County Adds 59 COVID-19 Cases, Total Reaches 23,194

BETHESDA, MD — The Maryland Health Department on Wednesday reported 59 new COVID-19 cases and one new death in Montgomery County, bringing the total number of cases to 23,194 and the local death toll to 811.

Another 40 people, health officials believe, had COVID-19 but died before ever getting tested. "Probable deaths" aren't included in the official fatality count until they are confirmed by a laboratory test.

Montgomery County — Maryland's most populous jurisdiction — has the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 30,226, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 128,664 cases, 3,829 confirmed deaths, and 144 "probable deaths." Of the 391 people that are currently hospitalized, 93 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
