Today at the U.S. Open: June 18

The championship rounds move into their third day.

Update, 10 a.m.: The third round pairings are now available.

Original post: Today, the championship rounds at the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club move into their third day. 

Play was suspended due to lightning at 8:04 p.m. Friday with 21 players yet to complete their second round, according to the United States Golf Association (USGA).

The second round will tee off at 8:15 a.m Saturday. After the second round is complete, the cut will be made and pairings will be made for the third round, which will begin around 9:50 a.m., according to USGA.

Friday, all passes for the shuttles from Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro for the remainder of the championship. However, Montgomery County announced yesterday it was to the Ride On 36 bus—which runs from Bethesda Metro to Congressional—to accommodate spectators.

It will be partly sunny today with a high near 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon, with a 30 percent chance of rain.

Traffic has been extremely slow around Congressional during the championship rounds. If you’re not heading to the tournament, avoid the following routes if possible:

  • River Road from the Capital Beltway to Falls Road
  • Falls Road from I-270 to Oaklyn Drive
  • Seven Locks Road from River Road to Democracy Boulevard
  • Persimmon Tree Road
  • Bradley Boulevard
  • Persimmon Tree Lane
  • Oaklyn Drive
