BETHESDA, MD — A tractor-trailer hauling test tubes lost control on I-495 early Friday morning, closing multiple lanes and snarling traffic.

The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. on the Capital Beltway's Inner Loop near Connecticut Avenue. The driver was extricated and hospitalized, according to Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.

The extent of the patient's injuries is unclear at this time.

The Maryland State Highway Administration says the Inner Loop's right lane, at Exit 33, is now open. All other lanes are blocked as crews clean up the wreck and subsequent diesel spill.
