Week in Review: July 11 - 17

Happy Sunday, Bethesda! Here’s your week in review.

Many of you had written in wondering about the status of Bubby’s deli, which appeared to have closed its doors. We reported this week that – it’s closed for renovations that will include installing a bar.

In Montgomery County Council news this week, the council approved a in common areas of apartment buildings and near playgrounds. A council committee this week the abandonment of one block of Lincoln Street in Bethesda – which Suburban Hospital officials have said is necessary for the facility’s contested expansion – and the full council is expected to review the proposal Tuesday.

Also this coming Tuesday, the council is expected to hold a public hearing on a set forth this week by County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) for a youth curfew. Youth this week and gathered petitions at Thursday evening’s Harry Potter

Wednesday, The that USPS is looking into a proposal to close two Bethesda post offices – including the historic site on Wisconsin Avenue—and consolidate them to a central location. A public meeting on the issue is slated for July 27 at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center.

Wednesday night, a 24-year-old Baltimore woman and her infant suffered a harrowing ordeal after being in Baltimore. The carjacker led police on a chase that ended after the woman jumped from the car with her child on the Capital Beltway near the Cabin John parkway. The woman suffered a cut to her head and the child wasn’t injured. Terron Alvin White, 22, has been arrested in that case.

The week ended with news two Bethesda teenagers that had been reported missing safely. But there was more troubling news Saturday when police reported that North Bethesda middle school had been with an ethnically-offensive word and a sexually-descriptive drawing. Police have linked the crime to a similar recent incident at Herbert Hoover Middle School in Potomac.
