Arnold Teen Wins $36K For Improving Cervical Cancer Screenings

An Arnold student is a recipient of the 2018 Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards for her work to improve cancer screenings.

BROADNECK, MD - From The Helen Diller Family Foundation: Lena Goldstein was recently announced as a recipient of the 2018 Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards, a $36,000 award that recognizes teens for their commitment to social good and volunteer service.

“Though my project primarily impacts women in the developing world, I value education and advocacy in global health issues,” says Lena. She is also the co-founder of McDonogh School's Global Health club, where Lena and her peers discuss issues including sustainability, infectious disease, sanitation, maternal health, and financial healthcare inequities. In 2017, Lena presented her research at International Society for the 2017 Study of Women’s Sexual Health and is an author on abstracts presented at the 2018 American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. Her research has appeared or is forthcoming in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, Journal of Women’s Health and Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease.

Now in its twelfth year, the Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards have given more than $4 million dollars to 114 Jewish teens who are tackling global issues and creating lasting change through tikkun olam – the vision of Bay Area Philanthropist Helen Diller, the quiet force behind The Helen Diller Family Foundation.
