Girls fighting back, cyber space, and outer space are all covered at AACC this week.

Girls Fight Back

In connection with Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Erin Weed, founder of the national organization Girls Fight Back, will share new techniques for personal safety and self-defense on Tuesday, April 5, 2-3:30 p.m., in the Pascal Center for Performing Arts on the AACC Arnold campus. The event is free and co-sponsored by the AACC Department of Public Safety, Student Life Office, Campus Activities Board, and Health Services Office and Women’s Institute. Cyber Business Opportunities

Mark Powell of the Sidus Group will present the keynote address at the AACC CyberCenter and Entrepreneurial Studies Spring Symposium on April 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Center for Applied Learning and Technology, Room 100. Titled “Career and Business Opportunities in Cyber,” the event also includes multiple breakout sessions on careers, business opportunities and government contracting and a panel discussion on AACC’s role in preparing individuals for cyber jobs and new business opportunities. The event is sponsored by the college’s CyberCenter, Entrepreneurial Studies Institute and the academic Business Management Department. The event is free. Travel and Turkey

AACC is presenting a College 4-A Day seminar titled “Turkey – At the Crossroads of Europe and Asia.” The class will lead students through discovering the cities of Troy and Ephesus, reviewing religious edifices, Hellenistic art, Turkish cuisine and drink. Astronomy Day

This annual day features special events sponsored by the Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails Inc., NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center and the AACC Astronomy Club. All activities take place this Saturday, April 9. From 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., a Planet Walk will cover the 4.7 mile section of the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail, with informal talks at planet stations by scientists, astronomers and members of local astronomy clubs. Then at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., multimedia astronomy presentations are scheduled, followed by an 8 p.m. community stargazing opportunity at the Arnold campus observatory, weather permitting. Athletic Events

The following AACC Pioneer teams will be playing at home this week:

  • Women’s Lacrosse, Tuesday, 7 p.m., against Howard County Community College;
  • Baseball, Saturday, 1 p.m., against Garrett College; and
  • Men’s Lacrosse, Saturday, 1 p.m., against Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville.
