Broadneck Rocks with Rocknoceros

Despite threatening weather, local residents pack the library for this favorite community event.

The wasn’t the quiet setting some patrons expected Thursday night as many local families showed up to hear a special child-friendly concert by Rocknoceros. The concert was one of numerous events scheduled for children in the library's summer reading program.

Despite the intense heat and humidity as well as sounds of thunder, over 200 people showed up for the outdoor concert. Because of the threat of inclement weather, the concert was moved indoors.

“We love having this concert at Broadneck,” said Laurie Hayes, spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Public Library who was on hand to take photos and greet guests. “We always get a great crowd here.”

Library Administrator Skip Auld was also in attendance, happily greeting crowd members and passing out raffle tickets for free entry to the Maryland Science Center.

Edgy and fun, the band Rocknoceros (pronounced like “rhinoceros”) sang songs that appealed to children and adults alike. Band members Coach Cotton, Williebob and Boogie Bennie sang some very cool tunes about everything from colors to U.S. geography.

From the looks of things, everyone had a rockin’ good time, as kids were on their feet during the very first number and many didn’t sit down for the entire hour.
