Class of 2011: Brooks Wiggans

A multi-sport varsity athlete, this BHS senior is headed to Clemson this fall.

Editor’s Note:  Broadneck Patch asked the guidance department at Broadneck High School to pick out some local student standouts that represent the unique makeup of the Class of 2011. This is the second installment in a series of interviews with these students.

For Broadneck senior Brooks Wiggans, it’s going to be a little tough not suiting up for football this fall. It is definitely a time for endings and beginnings for this talented athlete.

Wiggans, son of Bob and Candy Wiggans of Indian Hills in Arnold, played three years of varsity football, four years of varsity basketball, and two years of varsity lacrosse. He’s loved sports all of his life, a love he shared with his dad, a college athlete.

Wiggans was recently given the U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award.

Wiggans heads to Clemson this fall, but probably won’t play anything but club lacrosse. It is time for him to concentrate on his studies.

“I really liked Clemson when I went to visit,” said Wiggans. “The weather is warm, and everyone is very welcoming. It felt like home.”

He treasures his time as a BHS athlete, and feels fortunate to have played for talented coaches. “Coach Herrick always did what’s best for his players,” said Wiggans. “He definitely led by example.”

His favorite memory? “Has to be this fall, when we beat Arundel in the championship,” recalled Wiggans. “I will miss that pre-game excitement, when the crowd is cheering for you.”
