Crossing Bay Bridge Deemed Scary Enough by Some to Seek Help
A local business charges $25 one-way for an escort across the bridge, which is terrifying to some.
Crossing the 4.3 mile span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, connecting the Broadneck peninsula with Kent Island, is a daily activity for some. But for others, it can be terrifying.
The Daily Mail recently highlighted a local business named Kent Island Express that charges its customer $25 one-way to escort them across the bridge. The story went international after it was picked up by the New York Times, and at wamu.org.
The owner of Kent Island Express, Alex Robinson, described to The Daily Mail how some customers have paid the fee for years, even in their daily travels, in order to circumvent their gephyrophobia, or fear of crossing bridges.
