Get Out: Fun for the Whole Family

This weekend provides many options for local families to enjoy living on the Peninsula.

1) 

When/Where:  Friday, 8 p.m., Anne Arundel Community College, Cade Center for Fine Arts amphitheater (the inclement weather site is Jenkins Gymnasium). 

Why Go:  Great family event, featuring an outdoor showing of the PG-rated Disney animated film based on the story of Rapunzel. Bring chairs and blankets for seating, and no smoking or alcoholic beverages allowed. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and there will be a popcorn vendor onsite.

Price: $7 general admission, $6 AACC faculty and staff, $5 for those with valid AACC student ID and children under age 12.

2)  AACC Dance Company presents “Spring Migration 2011”

When/Where:  Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m., Pascal Center for the Performing Arts, Anne Arundel Community Colllege campus.

Why Go: Enjoy the choreography of talented AACC students and company director Lynda Fitzgerald, AACC coordinator of performing arts – dance, in this final spring show.

Price: $15 general admission; $10 students, AACC faculty and staff, senior citizens and groups; $7 students with valid AACC student ID. 

3)  Camp Blaze Children’s Fair

When/Where: Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., Big Vanilla in Arnold.

Why Go: The event features an exciting lineup of entertainment, a silent auction to benefit the Lighthouse Shelter of Annapolis, outdoor extreme sports exhibits and interactive play to entertain and educate the entire family for hours.

Price:  Free. 

4) 

When/Where:  Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Chesapeake Academy campus in Arnold.

Why Go: Enjoy student displays, presentations, hands-on activities, foods, and festivities that celebrate the traditions of different counties like Italy, Greece, Poland, Asia, Africa, India and more. There will also be music by Whirled Beetz.

Price:  Free.

5) Folk Music with a Kick

When/Where:  Sunday, 4 p.m., St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church.

Why Go: Enjoy The Joyous Sounds of Klezmer which combines the thrill of Jewish folk songs with the joy of jazz, and an infectious beat made for dancing and clapping along.

Price:  Charitable donations accepted.
