Get Out: School Events and Shaving for a Cause

School fundraisers, local rockers and "shavees" are a part of this weekend's activities in Broadneck.

When/Where: Β Saturday, March 5, at the Colombian Center in Severna Park from 7 to 11 p.m.Β 

Why Go:Β  The Bull Roast is an adult event, featuring all you can eat food provided by Pit Boys; all you can drink (beer, wine and soda with cash bar available); and dancing to live entertainment by the band β€œWe’re Not Handsome.” There will also be a live and silent auction, gaming wheels featuring two cash wheels and one Whiskey, Wine and Flower Wheel, as well as several door prizes. Proceeds benefit the school’s technology program.

Price:Β  Tickets at the door will be $35 each.

2)Β  Belvedere Elementary School Silent Auction

When/Where:Β  Saturday, March 5, 7 to 9 p.m., The Barn at Ulmstead Estates, 883 Lynch Drive in Arnold.

Why Go:Β  The PTA is sponsoring this event to benefit the school’s technology and enrichment needs. The event will feature huge items like Walt Disney hopper passes, tickets to the ESPN show Pardon the Interruption, full body massages, salon treatments, and more. Artwork by Belvedere students will also be available for bidding. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided.

Price:Β  $15 per person/$25 per couple.

3)Β  Asbury UMC Annual Flea Market

When/Where:Β  Saturday, March 5, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Asbury United Methodist Church, 78 Church Road, in Arnold.

Why Go:Β  The event offers bargain shoppers more than 5,000 square feet of gently used household appliances, kitchenware, pottery, crystal, decorative pieces, linens, holiday decorations, baby/children equipment and toys, games, sports gear, hardware/tools, books, CDs/DVDs, and even small furniture items. A bake sale featuring delicious homemade treats will also be offered.

Price:Β  Free admission.

4)Β  AACC Battle of the Bands

When/Where:Β  Saturday, March 5, Pascal Center for the Performing Arts, Anne Arundel Community College Arnold Campus.

Why Go: Sponsored by the AACC Student Activities Board, the event features bands whose members include AACC students and alumni, including: Dry Season, Point Blank, Rudder North, Val Nebbia Band, Vista Saints and Whence Cometh Evil.

Price: $10 general admission, $5 for students with a valid AACC student ID.

5)Β  St. Baldrick’s Event at O’Loughlins

When/Where:Β  Sunday, March 6, 2 p.m., O’Loughlin’s Restaurant in the Bay Hills Shopping Center.

Why Go: Β At a St. Baldrick’s event, young and old, male and female sit side by side, and face the clippers as part of a worldwide effort called "Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids’ Cancer." This annual Arnold event has more than 50 β€œshavees” raising nearly $40,000 for the cause. Fresh carved corned beef sandwiches will be available for a donation to St. Baldrick's compliments of the host, Tom Crawford. Beer and wine will also be available at β€œHappy Head” prices. Entertainment of Irish rock will be provided by the Rovers starting at 4 p.m.

Price:Β  Free admission but donations for the cause are requested.
