Grab and Go Planner: What's Up This Week for Older Kids

From elementary age through the teenage years, local kids have a variety of things to keep busy this week.

For the week of March 10-17

1)Β  Broadneck High School presents West Side Story

When/Where:Β  Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and March 12 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of Broadneck High School.

Why Go:Β  Lights, music and lots of action will hit the stage at Broadneck High School this weekend for the school’s production of West Side Story. The musical, which takes place in the heart of Manhattan in the 1950s, features the story of Romeo and Juliet with an American twist.

Featuring a live pit orchestra and the sensational talents of local students, the event is sure to be a hit with your older children.

Price:Β  $10 for adults; $8 for students and seniors.

Β 2)Β  Indoor Jr. Triathlon at Big Vanilla

When/Where:Β  Saturday, 7 – 11:30 a.m., at the Big Vanilla in Arnold.

Why Go:Β  Athletes ages 9-14 years old will swim 300 yards, bike five miles, and run one mile to complete this indoor triathlon.Β The male and female athlete with the lowest time in each age category willΒ receive a winners certificate. Age categories are: 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 years-old on the day of the event.

Price:Β  $30. Advanced registration is required.

3)Β  Lead on, Harriet

When/Where:Β  Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m. at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum in Annapolis.

Why Go:Β  Children ages 9 and up are offered an unforgettable interactive ride on the Underground Railroad.

Price:Β  $10.

4)Β  Wonderful Wednesdays at Broadneck Baptist Church

When/Where:Β  Wednesday,Β  5 – 6 p.m, at Broadneck Baptist Church.

Why Go:Β  Through a variety of fun activities, children begin to learn more about what the worship experience is supposed to be. The program is open to all elementary school students in the area.

Price:Β  Free.

5)Β  Teen Tech Week:Β  Game Night at the Annapolis Library

When/Where:Β  Thursday,Β  4 – 8 p.m., Annapolis branch library.

Why Go:Β  Tweens to teens ages 11-16 can challenge their friends and other gamers for high point scores in this program of video and other game contests. A snack will be provided.

Price: Β Free.
