Magothy River Eighth Graders Say Goodbye
Promotion Ceremony allows teachers and families to honor hard working students.
The gymnasium of Magothy River Middle School was packed full of eighth-graders, their family, friends, teachers and administrators on Monday evening, all celebrating the end of a job well done and the beginning of a new educational path.
In a new promotion ceremony format, staff members recognized outstanding students in various subject areas and for achievements like not missing a day of school and earning all A’s every quarter for three years.
The following students were recognized by teachers for their exceptional work in specific subject areas:

- Art: Tiffany Benincasa-Powell, Miguel Chavez-Munoz, Lydia McPherson-Shambarger, and Jacquelyn Williams;
- AVID: Colleen Browne and Sarah Rifield;
- Foreign Language: Elizabeth Bentley, Elizabethe Overton, Julia Poerio, and John Sundius;
- Family and Consumer Sciences: Kaitlin Byrne and Erin Dougherty;
- Language Arts: Kayla Echard, Jacob Edwards, Micaela Frye, Corey Howard, Christopher Johnston, Mark Machen, Nicole Ramos, Destiny Watts, and Sidney Wolin;

- Social Studies: Giulia Carbine, Ryan Jachimski, Lucie Kirby, Maria Lim, Joseph Mastros, Phoebe Meade, Stephen Morton, Skyler Todd, and Claire Woodfin;
- Techology Education: Andrew Maddox and Cassidy Sell.
Those receiving Shining Star awards for their studious habits and school success were: Jacob Chatham and Mollie Moore.
Eighth Grade Team Award Trophies were given to Morgan Chadwick and Paxton Paganelli.

Eighth-grader Belle Bistany said she was ready to move on.
“I am excited about going to high school and meeting new friends,” she said.
Allie Bragaw was a little more sentimental.
“It is sad seeing some classmates going to private school,” she said.
