Moms Talk: Is ParentConnect Doing What it's Supposed to?

Are the objectives of the system being fully met?

Local mom Susan contacted Broadneck Patch and wanted to cover a particular topic for this week’s Mom’s Talk online conversation.

The county school system has provided parents with ParentCONNECTxp, an easy-to-use communication tool that allows teachers to continually input student grades and attendance and assess student progress.Β

The thought was that parents and guardians of middle and high school students would now have online, timely, and secure access to their child’s grades and attendance through the website.Β

Susan has heard concerns about whether the system is actually accomplishing what it was set up to do. β€œSome parents who tend to push their children with very high expectations are going into the system daily, sometimes putting more pressure on their kids,” she said. "And some of the high level students are getting stressed out viewing every grade on a daily basis."

Susan is wondering whether the parents of children who are actually having trouble in school are using the system (like was envisioned) or whether the system is causing more stress on students who are high achievers.
