Viewfinder: Sharkey's Variety Show at Arnold Senior Center

Arnold resident Bill Sharkey kept guests of all ages entertained during his his Variety Show at the Arnold Senior Center Wednesday afternoon.
As he introduced himself to the crowd of seniors and grandchildren, Sharkey explained to the youngest audience members where he got his inspiration for the show.
"A long time ago we used to have a small box as our television, where talented stars would perform music and funny skits for an hour at a time," he said. "They called it a variety show because there were so many different things happening."

Sharkey, a retired music teacher in the Broadneck area, performs monthly at the center, but this was a special show that allowed seniors in the area to enjoy with their grandchildren.
From marching in a parade to magic tricks and even a whistling contest (where participants had to eat crackers), the crowd enjoyed the show and ice cream afterwards.

Paul Woodie of Arnold brought along his grandchildren, who laughed and provided assistance throughout the show.
"They were with us for the day and I thought it would be a fun thing to do," said Woodie. "I have known Bill for a long time but never seen one of his shows. He's pretty good."
