Whiz Kid of the Week: Taylor Smith
This swimmer has achieved some impressive records in Broadneck and beyond.
Now at Ohio Wesleyan University, Taylor Smith grew up in the Broadneck area where he made his mark as a talented and committed swimmer.
Taylor was a 2010 (BHS) graduate, where he swam for four years on the school's swim team. During his high school swimming days, he won two individual (100 yard breast and 500 yard free) and several relay state championships. The BHS team was state champion in 2008 and 2009.
Taylor continues to swim on college swim team. As a member of the team, he teaches swim lessons as part of Bishop Bubbles community swim lessons program.
Over the last three years, he swam in the 4.4 mile and placed second overall in 2011 and 2010. He also won the Cynthia Earley scholarship each of those years for the college-aged swimmer who raises the most amount of money for a charity. In 2009, he was fourth overall and first in the 15-19 age group.
While home in the summer, Taylor works as a lifeguard at . This summer, he is also an assistant coach for the Bay Hills Swim Team where he previously swam on the team for 10 years.
Taylor is double majoring in Politics & Government and Sports Management with minors in History and Marketing.
