Yoga Classes in Cape to Blend Fitness with Education

A yoga instructor is bringing a sense of peace of mind and body together with new classes taught at the Cape St. Claire Shopping Center.

A new business coming to the Cape St. Claire Shopping Center hopes to bring a touch of relaxation and fitness to kids and adults through yoga classes.

Barefoot Bliss Yoga and Little Toes Yoga will be taught by instructor Amy Morales from the former Curves building in the shopping center.

Morales said she will blend academic tutoring with yoga at the new business, and she brings with her more than 15 years as a learning specialist.Β

"I've seen how kids these days are so stressed out, always on the go. When kids don't have that time to relax, it can be really harmful," she said.Β "Older kids like it because they get to just wind down. When they take that time once or twice a week, they feel like they have the tools they need to deal and cope and to be more resilient for what's ahead."

After school, children signed up for the classes would receive yoga instruction for about an hour to wind down, and then receive tutoring and homework help after the session.

Morales said yoga makes sense as a teaching tool becauseΒ it's social, noncompetitive, and can be adapted to fit the needs of preschoolers all the way up to adults.

Sessions for adults can be either rigorous, contemplative or relaxing depending on what her students are looking for, Morales said.

Morales is a certified yoga instructor and children's yoga instructorΒ and hasΒ a master's degree in education. She currently teaches classes at the Chesapeake Academy in Arnold.

Barefoot Bliss Yoga is aiming for an opening by Labor Day in Cape St. Claire. For more information, visit Morales' website,Β or call 443-924-6171.
