Fake Arrest Warrants Being Mailed To Residents

Officials are warning Howard Co. residents that fake arrest warrants are being mailed with a phone number for scammers to demand payment.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Officials are warning residents to beware of scammers who are mailing fake arrest warrants and pretending to be either judges, officers with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, deputies with the Howard County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies.

The scammers will give false case numbers and demand money to pay off the fake outstanding warrant via crypto or a mobile app.

The Howard County Office of Consumer Protection warns residents that these mailed documents are to be reported to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Residents also should never pay these fake warrants or call the number on the mailer, the sheriff's office stated.
