New Hours In Effect Soon For Howard County Library Branches

Leaders have announced that the Howard County Library System will have extended hours for weekdays and Saturdays starting in September.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — In an effort to better serve the community, all six Howard County Library System branches will be opening one hour earlier on weekdays and Saturdays.

The new hours will be in effect starting Sept. 2. They'll be Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday hours remain from 1 to 5 p.m.

“Our new hours will make it easier for people to visit the library before their day gets underway - whether they’re heading to work, school or simply want a quiet space to start their morning” said Tonya Aikens, president and CEO of Howard County Library System.

“This change is a result of requests from our community to open earlier. Visit patterns to our branches support this, showing we were less busy the last hour we were open. At HCLS, our mission is simple but powerful: Learn. Grow. Connect. Our new hours will make it easier for our community to do just that," Aikens added.

The earlier opening time aims to serve a wide variety of community members, including early risers, students preparing classes, parents and caregivers with young children, and community members needing early access to resources, technology or programs, library leaders stated.
