Pet+ER Columbia Closing Its Doors

COLUMBIA, MD — Pet+ER Columbia will close Sept. 29 but its hospital in Hunt Valley will remain open, the business posted on its website.

"This decision was not made lightly. Over the past several months, we have explored every option to continue serving this community, but ultimately reached the difficult conclusion that we can no longer maintain operations effectively. While this chapter is coming to a close, we are incredibly proud of the pets we’ve helped and the families we’ve walked alongside during their most important moments," the business stated.

The website also directed current clients to contact the office to request their pets' medical records.

"Thank you for the trust you’ve placed in us over the years, and for allowing us to be part of your family’s story," the business shared on its website.

Pet+ER has worked with the Maryland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to provide care for foster pets in emergency situations after hours at their Columbia and Hunt Valley locations.

"In the middle of the night, when an emergency happens, they are always there and they are always willing to help," Nichole Miller, director of operations for Maryland SPCA, told WBAL.

Miller noted that the closure didn't surprise her, however, as there is a shortage of veterinarians nationwide.

"For the Maryland SPCA, we've had a hard time being fully staffed with veterinarians since 2019… Unfortunately, we had to close down our vet clinic that was open to public animals in 2023 and we really focused on spay and neuter for public clients, our shelter pets here, and then we've also done smaller pop-up clinics. This is all just a result of doing the best we can do and maintaining our shelter veterinarian staff," Miller shared with WBAL.
