11 People Hurt in Multi-Car Accident on Route 3

One person is in critical condition after a Tuesday morning crash involving seven cars on Route 3 near Maryland Route 450, according to a fire official.

Eleven people have been hospitalized following a major accident on Maryland Route 3 near Maryland Route 450 in Crofton. 

Battalion Chief Steve Thompson of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said the crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and involved seven vehicles. 

One person was transported to the trauma center at Prince George's Hospital Center with critical and life-threatening injuries. Another person suffered injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.

An additional nine people were transported with minor injuries to area hospitals including Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie and Bowie Health Center. 

Information on the ages and genders of the crash victims was not immediately available.

The accident closed Route 3 in both directions on Tuesday morning.
