• Penn State Football Safety Zakee Wheatley Declares For NFL Draft (onwardstate.com) — A standout Penn State safety who grew up in Crofton is heading to the 2026 NFL Draft after two strong seasons as a starter. Zakee Wheatley, a reliable leader in the Nittany Lions’ secondary, racked up 170 tackles and four interceptions, and will skip the upcoming bowl game as he prepares for his professional football future.
   

• James 'Jimmy' Calvin Brumfield Jr., (smnewsnet.com) — Crofton readers may know the family of James “Jimmy” Calvin Brumfield Jr., whose son Colt lives in Crofton and is among those mourning his passing. Jimmy, a Bowie resident and former Army National Guard member, was known for his tree work at the Capitol, love of fast cars, and deep devotion to family and faith. A memorial service is set for December 16 in Brandywine.
