Carroll Co. Schools : Century High School Marching Band To Participate In 2022 Pearl Harbor Day Parade In Hawaii

The Century High School Knights Marching Band has been selected as the official ambassador from Maryland to participate in the 2022 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, on December 7, 2022. The parade will commemorate the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the 77th anniversary of the end of WWII.

This selection was based on the band’s outstanding reputation and an extensive review by a selection committee. The students from Century will not only proudly represent the state of Maryland, but also the veterans of WWII from Maryland and those who served on the famed Battleship USS Maryland.

The Century High School Instrumental Music Boosters are currently conducting a fundraising effort to cover the substantial expenses associated with the five-day trip. It will cost approximately $2,000 per performer, including airfare, the Hawaii itinerary, transporting band instruments and uniforms, and other expenses as they arise.

The Band Booster program has committed to provide at least $500 for each performer. The band also is raising funds from the community to help defray the remainder of the cost with a fundraising goal of at least $80,000. Century High School is incredibly honored to be the only band to represent the state of Maryland at the parade. Band director Sara Norris is an alumna of Carroll County Public Schools and attended North Carroll High School where she was a member of the band. Westminster High School had the honor of participating in the parade in 2013.
