Century, Liberty Leos Donate Supplies to Elementary School Students

Thanks to the efforts of 11 Leos from Century and Liberty high schools, two dozen elementary school students in Eldersburg and Sykesville will have new backpacks and school supplies provided for them.

The mission carried out by 11 Leos was led by Rebecca Debinski and Emily Livesay, Leo presidents at Century and Liberty, respectively. The group purchased goods Monday, and delivered them on Tuesday.

"The project was flawless," Carl Livesay, Freedom District Lions Club Youth Outreach Chairman, said in an email to Patch. "The project leaders contacted and met with interested elementary school counselors and principals to identify the school supply needs of students. The Freedom District Lions provided the funding and the [Leos] did all the work. What a terrific demonstration of the difference a small group of dedicated students can make right here in their community. We are very proud of these students.”

The backpacks—filled with a year's supply of school items—were delivered to counselors at the schools on Tuesday.

Livesay said the initiative was carried out in confidence—that the Leos and Lions did not know who the students were who would be receiving the packages.

Carl Livesay said the team was complimented by Freedom District Lion Bob Morris and Lion Brenda Livesay. District Governor Kent Eitemiller and Lion Liz Eitemiller stopped by to show support when they saw the event posted on Facebook, Carl Livesay told Patch.
